Sunshine and Cupcakes

My first trip home after the storm, May 2006. The flood waters were so high that only a small portion of my grandmother's roof was visible in aerial photos. The back wall of the house was lost to the waters, and the house was open. Unfortunately, I am such a diva that I wore platform mules on the plane home, and as a result could/would not walk through the grass for fear of what now lurks in the city. My brother's car is out front. My paternal grandmother's house was about three blocks from one of the largest levee breaks. It floated away with my uncle inside. It crashed into another house and is gone. The city has not recovered much in that time. But of course, all of the bars and strip clubs in the French Quarter are open.
